I have been taking Mariah Coz’s from Femtrepreneur online course called ‘Webinar Rockstar’. She gives valuable tips on how to build your email list using only webinars. I have a pretty active community of 50k members between my blog www.oliviarose.fr and my youtube channel and I wanted to capture their email address in order to sell them my ebook and my coaching services later.
As soon as I have finished Mariah’s course, I decided to put her strategy into action. I am sharing in this article what I have done to get 395 new email subscribers on my list.
1. I bought my equipments.
I have invested in an Audio-Technica ATR 2100 microphone and a Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam. I will also be able to use these equipment to record my Youtube videos voice over and for my coaching video calls afterwards.
2. I choose my webinar topic.
I wanted to teach something that was immediately actionable. The participants would be able to apply the tips straight away and be able to see the results quite quickly.
When choosing the webinar topic, I referred to my excel sheet where I gathered the frustrations, the hopes and the problems of my email subscribers. One major problem that they face is hair breakage. If their hair brakes, they cannot have long hair. And long hair if the dream of (most) black women.
So I have decided to teach how to reduce breakage using 5 simple tips. I also defined what are the 5 things the participants will learn during the webinar.
3. I choose my webinar date and time.
Most of my subscribers are available on Sundays. Choosing the time was a little bit trickier. I am based in Brisbane, most of my subscribers are living in France but some of them are in the Caribbean and Africa. I have decided to set the time for 2pm Paris time.
4. I designed my registration and thank you page.
Before crafting the content of my webinar, I have created my registration page on Leadpages. I have included the title of the webinar, the date and time and what the participants are going to learn. I also added that a live Q&A will be available at the end of the webinar.
I linked my registration form to a one email sequence in my ESP.
On the thank you page, I encourage the participants to share the registration page on Facebook and Twitter by adding the social media sharing button. That would help me to get more sign up.
5. Webinar promotion.
I started the promotion of my webinar exactly a week before the date. After registration, the participants received a confirmation email with more details about the webinar.
I sent a broadcast email to my list. I am using ConvertKit as my ESP. To register to the webinar, the subscriber can simply click on the link I have provided in the email and they will be added to the participant list. My list excluded the ones that registered received another 2 emails to encourage them to sign up to the webinar.
The participants received a series of 4 emails prior to the workshop to remind them of the event and to build up excitement. In one of the email, I also provided a PDF document with blank space to fill during the webinar.
I promoted my webinar on my Facebook page, my Facebook group, Snapchat and Instagram a few times before the workshop and used the pitch sent to my email list as caption.
I also promoted my webinar with Facebook and Instagram advertisement to all my website visitors within the last 180 days. I spent AUS31,09.
Here are some of the designs I used:
I put my website into “webinar mode” and added a notification bar on top of my website. I used the plugin called “Notification Bars”.
6. Preparing my presentation.
The goal of this workshop was not only to increase my email list but mainly to pitch my ebook on afro hair maintenance.
I divided my presentation in 4 :
- Introduction of myself and the webinar,
- The hair problem that I experienced myself and how I overcome them,
- Teaching my topic,
- Pitching my ebook.
I used Keynote to create my presentation.
For the purpose of this webinar, I have created a special offer including:
- my hair maintenance ebook,
- a guide to analyse the composition of hair products,
- 2 video tutorials to reduce breakage.
This package was priced at $44.27.
7. Creating the live page.
I created my live page on Leadpages, embedded Google Hangouts on it and integrated it with WordPress. I also added a free chat box called Chatango to allow the participants to exchange between them. Below the live stream, I have included the graphics of the special offer with a “buy now” button. This button was linked to a Samcart checkout page.
The link of the live page has been sent to the last two emails broadcasted to the participants.
8. I went live!
The webinar didn’t go as expected. I had some tech problems before and during the presentation but I still managed to deliver as much value as possible.
The results of the webinar.
I gained 395 new email subscribers. 814 registered to the webinar (419 from my email list).
I sold only 4 packages ($177.08 revenue) because of the tech problems I experienced.
